Kanchan Khisa

My name is Kanchan Khisa, (Chakma community). I am a Bangladeshi. I graduated from La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia in the discipline of Economics. I passed my MSS in Economics from Dhaka University, Bangladesh. I am an easy going person and have the capabilities to adjust with any circumstances. Throughout my life I have shown the skills of acquiring knowlwdge by myself. My enthusiasm alyays leads me towards discovering new horizons of adventures. Life is very complicated, but we have to find the ways to make our life easy and simple in order to survive. My goal is to set forth in discovering the newer spectrum in my hidden soul.
During my stay in Australia, I lived in Chisholm College. I participated in various activities of this college. Along with my study, I have done Photography in NIKON Certificate course. I use to go out for photography. I spend most of the time with photographing outdoor scenes, landscape, cityscape, people, waterscape, arial photography. I use those photographs for my Photo Folio. At present (from August 1, 2006) I have been working at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) CHTDF in Rangamati.
I have worked at the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) at Rangamati Regional Office as 'Development Officer' from March 2002 till 31 July 2006, for about 4 and a half years. Before that I worked as the 'Assistant Director' of Career Counselling Centre at East West University in Dhaka, Bangladesh for about one year.
I worked at the Asian Development Funded project- Chittagong Hill Tracts Regional Development Plan (ADB TA# 3328-BAN) as a Financial and Economic Analysis Specialist at the project. The project aims to focus at the long term development strategies for the Chittagong Hill Tracts, Bangladesh. As an Economist my job involves the determination of Gross Value Added (GVA) of CHT, GVA per capita of CHT population, detail financial and economic analysis of current situation, make projections for future projects and development.
I worked at North South University at the department of career services (DCS) as a Career (Job) Counselor previously. This job is very unique in Bangladeshi environment. This is actually dedicated for the student welfare during and after the completion of their studies in the university. My duties include, counsel the graduates for job search process, look for the prospective companies and organizations for any opportunities in their companies to place our graduates, set up linkage with those companies for internal relation and mutual cooperation for scruitiny. I send the qualified graduates' resumes to the prospective companies, take personal interviews from the graduates whether they are eligible or not. I also give advice to the graduaes students who plan to go aborad for higher studies. I also facilitate the unuiversity and the graduates with the formation of the Alumni Association. I maintain a database of all the Alumni for quick reference. I am also in charge of another challenging duty in my job. I am in charge of internship placement of students into perspective companies and business organisations. Internship is a 10-12 weeks of employment period during which the students undertake employment as a full time worker in the respective companies. Through the internship course, the students become familiar with the actual job environment. I have to contact the companies and business organisation for placing our graduating students. Internship is compulsary for some courses, such as business, environmental studies; while it is optional for the rest courses. A student is recognised as a graduate only after the successful completion of the internship.
